LowEndMap - a little resource

Good Evening.

Had a little time to burn and have started building this: http://lowendreview.com/map/

Would love to hear your thoughts. It is my hope to add every host, I've purely picked a geo diverse group of hosts for the purpose of the map. It's a WIP at this stage. Some of the figures are probably not correct, gone of memory.

Cheers,

Liam.

Hello fellow members of the forum.

I recently updated the theme on my tutorial/guide website to hopefully make it easier to browse it and find interesting articles to read about.

I would like your opinion on the current state. If you visited in the past and remember the old look, feel free to say if you like this better or the old one was better.

I hope that if you reply with "good" or "suck" it would be nice of you to tell what you think is "good" or "suck".

Thank you for reading and hope I will get many comments. I do still work on theme changes and some were applied as late as yesterday. More changes will be done but feedback is always appreciated.

If you find something you like and want to repost it, read this: All the text on this website is free as in freedom unless stated otherwise. This means you can use it in any way you want, you can copy it, change it the way you like and republish it, as long as you release the (modified) content under the same license to give others the same freedoms you’ve got.

OpenLiteSpeed Questions (Now with More Answers!)

I'm trying this again (and making a backup of what I write this time).

BronzeByte asked a few questions about OpenLiteSpeed in another thread. That thread was already on to another topic, so I figured I'd make my own thread to answer the questions. The answers get kind of long, so I'm only going to answer one per post...

Here are the questions BronzeByte asked:

  1. Can that panel be disabled? It feels like microsoft shoving a GUI down my throat with free exploited included
  2. Is there an API for configuring websites?
  3. Chroot functionality or openbasedir thingy?
  4. Will it use all cores or do you need to modify the internal code for that?

About:

In GinerNet we are a accredited RIPE LIR member, thanks to this accreditation, we have a direct support class for network traffic control and IP addressing so that does not rely on third parties to provide services. Our Autonomous System is AS59432.

We have our own network and server architecture that stayed in our private racks with restricted access in our CPD of Alicante (ABServer), where we have taken out a 1Gbps transfer rate peering with AireNetworks, the most largest transit provider in Spain that provides direct connection to major ISPs in "Espanix" (Telefónica, ONO, Jazztel, Vodafone, Orange, Easynet, etc ...) and international (Level3, Tinet, Cogent, Colt, Init7, Savvis, etc ...) which gives us excellent worldwide visibility.

We provide our service using the most modern hardware technology using 3 servers in cluster (running OpenVZ inside KVM) + 1 server for backups + 1 server reserved as spare in case of HW crash.

I remain at your disposal to answer your questions in this thread or you can contact the support service to clear any questions you have. Do not forget that we are at your disposal every day of the year 24.

Help, Manual OpenVZ Container Creation

$

Ok, So basically I have manually created a container via command line. Can anyone explain what I have done wrong. I have assigned the IP, I can ping the IP and the container has full connectivity. But when I check the IP in the container by curling a website. It returns the host nodes IP

[root@juno /]# vzctl set 1380 --ipadd CONTAINERIP --save
Deleting IP address(es): CONTAINERIP
Adding IP address(es): CONTAINERIP
CT configuration saved to /etc/vz/conf/1380.conf

[root@juno /]# vzctl exec 1380 curl curlmyip.com
199.101.. (Main nodes IP)

I believe it is an IPtables rule. But I can't seem to quite get it

We were just notified that two of the cabinets that contain the LowEndBox special L5420 servers in Atlanta will be powered down for approximately 45 minutes starting at 5:00 AM EDT on 6/4/2013 while a UPS system is replaced due to a critical deficiency identified by the electricians.

I'm posting this here and a number of other places as an FYI. Customers are welcome to open a ticket if they have questions.

Emergency Maintenance on All BlueVM OpenVZ Services

$

This post is just to help catch anyone who has not already gotten an email from us about our current emergency maintenance.

Earlier this morning one of our pen testers came across a vulnerability in our OpenVZ Kernel which allows a container to escalate permissions to the root user on the host node.

Original email:

Hello,

We are performing emergency maintenance on ALL of our OpenVZ node servers, meaning EVERY OpenVZ server will be affected.

The kernel we operate on needs to be upgraded as soon as possible. But unfortunately this requires us to reboot each node server.

It should take no longer than 5 minutes per server. We are performing this maintenance NOW.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused, and the short notice. This was unavoidable.

If you have any questions, feel free to open a ticket.

Misterhost? No thanks

$

So i have been with misterhost for about a week now, running a nice little tor relay on it, not using that much bandwidth, and after all, it's unmetered (capped to 10mbps after 2tb). And i heard the little "pling" sound on my tablet, and i looked, and i saw a not so nice email about them canceling my server. I thought, Okay no problem, but i do would like to know the reason why they are canceling my VPS with them

So i have sent a reply (in which i ask the reason of the cancelation) to the email they have sent me, and i got the following "nice" reply from them:

Hi!

We don’t have to give any reason for a cancelation. We have the right to cancel a service in the same way, as every customer can do this.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen
Stephan Röder

So, what are your thoughts on this? Is this normal for providers? Is this how you would deal with paying customers?

EDIT: This the cancelation email i got from them:

Dear Wesley

we are sorry to say, but we have to cancel your virtual Server to the end of the actual billing period (26.06.2013)

Please find an other Provider.

With best regards

Stephan Röder
